Anxiety is an emotion characterized by overwhelming feelings of tension, fear and the experience of frequent worrying. People who struggle with anxiety typically experience recurrent intrusive thoughts or concerns associated with avoidance of certain situations. They may experience physical symptoms of anxiety in their body such as sweating, trembling, dizziness or a rapid heartbeat. Restoring Clarity and Coaching understands anxiety as a preoccupation with the past such as "I can't believe I did that" or "I failed" or a preoccupation with the unforeseeable future impairing one's ability to stay focused and centered in the present moment. Anxiety is the body's natural way of alerting us to danger so we can act in a protective manner. Anxiety becomes problematic when it is based on perceived threat or threats that haven't happened yet and most often irrational such as the fear of failure or when the alert system in your brain is firing when there is no clear, active threat in the moment. What makes anxiety overwhelming is it is as if the alert system is so loud it hijacks our ability to access our calm, logical and problem solving mind. Our mission is to assist you with examining how your thinking impacts your mood and shapes your behaviors along with giving clear strategies to re-center, re-evaluate and re-focus the mind in order to access a state of calm again. We will also explore the role of past experiences in activating this stress response presently and assist you with rooting yourself in the moment by building containment skills that will allow you to separate yourself from the distress you are experiencing. Body based or somatic therapies are utilized to assist clients with discharging anxiety trapped in the body. As a somatically trained therapist I will use movement and attunement to sensation to release anxiety We will complete experimental exercises and grounding or centering so you can be clear headed.
